Ghamidi sahb states that life arises from matter and thus can be created experimentally by scientists. However, about personality and it’s three facets he asserts that these cannot be created on earth and the shaksiyat is gained as a result of nafk-e-rooh.

However, Computer scientists have been able to create artificial intelligence which works just like our intellect (and in some cases with far more speed and effectiveness) for example Gpt 3, Open AI, algorithms that decide everything from plane ticket prices to google searches. This raises the doubt that the intellect aspect of human nafs can be recreated on earth. Please guide,

    thanks.

Human personality is not computing skills. It comprises four elements. Reasoning, ethics and aesthetics. These cannot be created by human beings and are not supposed to be created by them. These are divine.

First two sentences are not clear.

    Sorry. It is typo.

Human personality is not about computing skills.

Four elements determine human personality. Reasoning, sense of ethics and sense of aesthetics.

      Fourth being the consciousness?

    I counted it in reasoning.

would you mind elaborating as how consciousness is considered part of reasoning? as I’m unclear why ghamidi sahb doesn’t classify it separately.

      Thanks

His term is Aqli Wujud. It includes Shaoor or consciousness.

Hmm, however most western philosophers and thinkers in general tend to classify consciousness as separate and a priori as humans don’t seem to infer consciousness from knowledge rather they already have it innately in their nature and something similar is observed in animals or other beings as well.

Explaining consciousness is considered as a hard problem of science. There are a handful of scientists and philosophers who deny the existence of consciousness or downplay its role, however, consciousness is a collective experience of the entire humanity Neither its existence can be denied, nor it is denied by many scientists and philosophers.

Those who reduce consciousness to physical processes, do so speculatively instead of on the basis of any observations. There is no evidence so far that consciousness arises from chemical interactions and those interactions turn into electrical impulses. Similarly, there is no evidence at present that any physical processes give rise to self awareness and qualitative experiences.

Artificial intelligence constitutes only computing, while based on our current data consciousness cannot be reduced to only computation.

      Thanks.

However, I still have a doubt regarding this one thing, computer programs can also derive meaningful results from given data (inference), which is exactly how our aqal works. So, is it wrong to define these computer programs as “intelligent”?

It really depends upon what we mean by intelligence, since the word is used in several different connotations. If by intelligence we mean computing power, which of course includes drawing inductive and deductive inferences, then computers are certainly intelligent. Not only that but this intelligence is growing very rapidly. However, as I stated above, in the light of our current data, consciousness cannot be reduced to only computations. So if by intelligence we mean to refer to consciousness which includes emotional intelligence, then computers do not have this quality and one could argue that they never will.
