Are Wagers In Skill Games Betting?
For example, a game of skill like chess. If a person says that the winner gives £5 is that betting? Most online websites say it is from what I gather.
What about if each player contributes £2.50 and the winner takes all the money- is this any different ?

Following in from this- we make investments in business all the time based on estimations of other’s abilities and skill- so why can’t this same logic be applied to horse racing or football?-
Investment in business cannot be compared with betting on horse racing or similar sports etc. It requires services of a financial expert (if done properly) and risks taken by such experts are very calculated. The returns earned from such investments result from an economic activity originally in which one’s investment played a role in some way where no game of chance is being played. Betting on sports by nature is a game of chance resulting in confirm loss of money to someone else depending on happening/non-happening of a certain outcome being played as a game of luck – hence creating the moral problem.
