I know that we have been advised by the prophet to follow this principle but I want to ask will it be a sin or violation if one wants to donate/provide ration to a family but purchases things that are relatively cheap to what he purchases for his kitchen?

For example: Ghee instead of Olive Oil

And less costly rice instead of the premium brand that is used in his kitchen? And so on with other products.

Will this be a violation of the above mentioned principle?

This is about general behaviour toward other Muslims, this is not about specifities of life. For example, if one wants to eat good healthy food himself then he should also want good healthy food for his brother as well. This does not necessarily mean that whatever brand one is consuming, he should also provide the same brand food to others. It is not about relative cheapness of the food, rather it means that food should be of quality which one considers to be healthy and good for consumption. Objection will be rasied when one provides food of poor quality which he himself does not consider healthy for consumption.
