hello there o want to know that what exactly is the definition of laghw and lahw, some ulema say like hanafi ulma that laghw is anything without benefit which may or may not contain evil or sinful speech. so they say that anything that wastes time and does not benefit us is laghw. so would it mean that the laghw mentioned in surah mominoon, that muminoon are those that avoid laghw. would it be said that muminoon are those that avoid things which are of time waste? and that time waste is sin by this category of this ayah? because a true Muslim is that who avoids it. so is time wasting against those properties of a mümin? like playing games and talking with a friend about tournament of football

@Irfan76 as also in tafsir of Ghamidi and ıslahı it was written that ‘laghw’ is something which has no benefit of world or hereafter. but in another video ghamidi sahab says that “laghw” is anything morally not suitable like sitting in a environment of abusive and falsehood talks. where a gentleman does not like to sit. so reading the former paragraph, we get to see that anything that has no benefit in this life or hereafter, that act, whether moral or immoral, comes in category of laghw. which would mean that playing games for fun, or doing out with friends for fun or talking with a friend for example on a fifa tournament of 1995, all these would be counter or against the notion of true momin.

but when we hear the latter paragraph of Ghamidi Sahab, it gives an impression that none of the above mentioned things are wrong, like time wasting activities like playing games more than one should but if it’s under the realm of Halal and also not affecting a moral vibe of a person and not driving him away from God, then it’s okay. so can you please clear the confusion

Laghw is useless or futile, and lahw means the activity which leads one away from God or religion.

To have fun is the need of our Nafs. However if one indulges in it to forget one prayers or other relgious obligations, then it comes lahw.
