  • Understanding Below The Knees (Awrah Rule)

Posted by Muhammad Sami ud-Din on January 27, 2023 at 4:24 pm

    Asselamu aleyküm,

Ghamidi Sb. (ha) in the 8th Part of his session of Response to 23 Questions (Veil), he said that the Male Awrah is from Navel to below the Knees and the Female Awrah is from neck down to below the Knees, and that for deciding the Awrah, we should apply the rule “private parts and their adjoining parts”.

My question is simply that, Is the upper part of shin bone in the knee (which is joining the thigh bone) Awrah or not? as this is not necessarily an adjoining area to the private parts.

    Kindly clarify.

This depends upon the cultual understanding. Below the knee is far from the private parts, so is not included in Awrah.

Yes sir, The shins are not the Awrah, because the shins are far away from the private parts. But, does the upper part of Tibia, which is joining the thigh bone (and is considered as the knee-part), included in the Awrah or not?

The larger upper part of the shin-bone in red, which is joining the thigh bone. (It is generally considered as the knee-part), will it considered as the Awrah or not?
