It seems to me that the incident and it’s detail lie in the category of mutashabihaat but still almost every school of thought have their own theory about it. Why is it like that?

We shouldn’t speculate about it, right?

Specualtion has no room in religion. Mutashabihaat according to us, are not ambiguous, their meanings are well known, but their reality is not knowable. for example, paradise, hell, angles, and matters of the hereafter are mutashabihaat, their meanings are clear but their actual reality and how they will occur are not known.

Secondly, Quran says, that the understanding of Qruan and religion is based on Muhkammat, the ones, whose meaning and reality are known, they are the basis. Read the following verse in this regard:

It is He who has revealed to you this Book which has verses that are muḥkam also – they are the foundation of the Book – and some others [besides them] that are mutashābihāt as well. Then those whose hearts are perverted always go after the mutashābihāt from among it in order to create dissension and in order to know their reality even though no one except God knows their reality. On the other hand, those who are well-grounded in this knowledge say: “We believe in them: all this is from our Lord.” And, in reality, only those whom God has blessed with intellect understand such things.

[They say:] “Lord! Do not cause our hearts to go astray after You have guided us and grant us mercy through Your own grace; Without doubt, you are the Giver.

Lord! You shall surely gather all the people for a day of presence that will indubitably come. It is a fact that God does not break His promises.”
