Zakat On Dowry Gold But Poor Financial Conditions
My sister in law hasa certain quantity of gold which was given to her as dowry by her parents at the time of her marriage. The gold falls under the category of zakat but her income is so low that she cannot pay zakat on it. She is living hand to mouth
Is the zakat is applicable on this gold?
If yes, does she need to pay the zakat by selling some portion of the same gold???

As a principle, Zakat of 2.5% is due on savings of all sorts but if one is genuinely facing a situation where either he feeds his family or pays zakat then Zakat will be considered waived.

if the gold is Jewellery and it is worn off and on, not as something luxusious, it is exempted from Zakat, but if it is used occasionally, Zakat has to be paid on it, if it eqaul or above Nisab. However, if the circumstances are not favouable, then Zakat can be waived as the second vedio suggests.
