  • Zakat On Salary, Its Calculation And Nisab

Nisab for production is 653 kg of dates.

One has to calculate his annual salary and subtract the amount of nisab and give zakat on remaining amount??

Or one has to give zakat on his whole salary if his salary is above nisab

    Kindly clarify. Thanks

Zakat on Salary is ijtihad of Ghamidi sb. He thinks that the minimum nisab for salary zakat is the minimum taxable amount specified by the Govt. if not specified then you can take min nisab as 653 kg of dates.
You have to pay it on the gross salary which can 5, 10 or 20% depending on the mode of income. For details please see

In case you are a salaried person, you should also pay 10 % of your salary every time you receive it as production Zakat (can be calculated annually as well). You can deduct the amount the government has fixed as exemption to salaried persons and then pay the said percentage of the remaining amount as Zakah. (In case there is no tax exemption slab available, then one can use amount equivalent to 653 kg of dates as Nisab for Salary earnings).

However, there can be difference of opinion on whether Zakat percentage should be applied on amount only above Nisab threshold or on the whole amount as soon as it crosses the Nisab threshold, but Ghamidi Sahab prefers the latter position.
