  • Attribution Of Kufr In Passages To The Sufi Saints

There are some who hold that the “shirk” and “kufr” found in the books of Sufis such as Ibn Arabi or even Abdul Qadir Jilani cannot be attributed to them. They claim that people who came later concocted these passages and attributed them to the Sufi saints.

It seems possible that it did happen. For example, people made up hadiths attributing them to the Prophet (SAW). That the book “Fusus” was written by Ibn Arabi may be established history, but its content is not. So it is possible to invent something having shirk or kufr in it and pass it off as written by the Sufis.

It may or maynot be the case but it is a matter of academic research. In any instance, our critique is on the whole System of thought which emergies from ‘Tasawwuf‘ in the name of Islam and not on the individual personalities. If that system of thought exists then the critique would stay relevant and if it doesn’t then the critique would stand irrelevant on its own.

I think the burden of proof is on those who claim that they were NOT written by the Sufis or parts of them that involve Kufr or Shirk.
