Proper Impact Of Giving Zakat And Other Charity On Nafs
Are zakat’s purpose and benefits to our nafs being less effective if we don’t do it based on empathy for other people? I mean yes, one could give it away with the reasoning that he is doing it to please Allah and just because it is an obligation but there is another aspect, which is that when we develop empathy for needy people, we see the world from their perspective and give them charity based on the pain we feel for them and understanding their situation. Will simply giving zakat because it is an obligation develop this empathy and value in our nafs? Or do we have to do both things such as 1. give it to please Allah, and 2. to help the poor people based on empathy.
And is this the zakat’s purpose, do develop empathy for others and to not disrupt the economic system?
