It’s not a website run by ahle tashih it is run by qadiyani and if imam Jafar had a strict view on music and he forbade it according to this article then why some of scholars say that music is lawful within certain boundaries

Al-Islam.org is copyrighted by “Ahlul Bayt Digital Islamic Library Project” and is a site with main focus on presenting Shia Islam.

      Please see:

This is what was available from Imam Jafar through Shia means, this does not mean it is entirely credible. Even if it is, Imam Jafar or any other Imam for that matter is not an authority on religion. We need to see their arguments and whether those arguments seem in line with Quran and Sunnah.

If you want to know Farahi School’s view on Music and their arguments or want to seek any clarification in this regard, then please post it in separate question objectively and clearly. This question was specific about view of Imam Jafar and has nothing to do with Music in Islam.

Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (ra) was the 8th century Muslim scholar, jurist, and theologian. He was descended from both grandsons of our Holy Prophet (sav), through his father. While, through his mother he was descended from Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (rta) (through his sons, Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, ra, and Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr, ra). His maternal grandfather, Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bar (ra) was the great traditionalist of his time. Whose paternal aunt, Umm al-Mu’minin Hazrat Aisha (rta) also taught him.

According to the Shi’ite traditions, Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (ra) forbade Music. However, It is important to note that, there are many fabricated traditions alleged to the notable personalities from Ahl al-Bayt. Especially to whom, our Shia Muslims brothers and sisters consider as their Imams. Such as, in the Shi’ite traditions, they are reported to have opposed the first three Rashidun caliphs (rta). However, the Sunni-Naqshbandi traditions of Imam Ja’far (ra) are different from them.

According to one Naqshbandi tradition, Imam Jafar (ra) narrated from his father, Muhammad al-Baqir (ra), that a man came to his grandfather, Zain al-Abidin (rta), and said, “Tell me about Abu Bakr!” He said, “You mean as-Siddiq (rta)?” The man said, “How do you call him as-Siddiq when he is against you, the Family of the Prophet (sav)?” He replied, “Woe to you. The Prophet (sav) called him as-Siddiq, and Allah accepted his title of as-Siddiq. If you want to come to me, keep the love of Abu Bakr (rta) and Umar (rta) in your heart.”

Thus, It would be best if we refrain from giving any opinion on his perspectives. As, nothing is confirmed due to fabrication. And, considering him solely as a Shia Muslim or a Sunni Muslim would also be incorrect. Furthermore, I would also like to add that, many notable personalities from both Shia and Sunni schools of thought are descended from him. (including, Sayyid Abul A’la Sb. Maududi, ra)

So what were the views of maududi ra sb. On music

As per my knowledge, Mevlana Maududi (ra) also believed on the prohibition of Music. But, His perspective should not be taken as the perspective of Imam Jafar (ra). The shajra-e-nasab of Mevlana (ra) traced back to Imam Ja’far as-Sadiq (ra) through Moin ud-Din Chishti (ra), who was a Sufi. But, Mevlana unlike his family and ancestors opposed Tasawwuf. As, he was influenced from Ustaz Hamid ud-Din Farahi (ra), like Ustad-e-Mohtaram Javed Ahmed Ghamidi Sb. (ha). So, it would be wrong to believe that the views of everyone from the same lineage would be same.

And most important of all, we should see our deen in the context of Qur’an and Sunnah. Music is not prohibited at all, if it is used for dopamine. But, it would be prohibited if it is leading one to sins (like Sadd-e-Zariya). Allah says in the Qur’an that these beautiful things of this world were created for the righteous servants of God (But, the transgressors also have the share in them). Thus, The opinion of Ghamidi Sb. (ha) and those scholars who say music is halal is acceptable.

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Two voices are cursed in this world and in the Hereafter: a flute at a time of celebration, and wailing at a time of calamity.”

Can you please clarify this hadith then thank you
