  • Use Of Gold Plated Plates, Spoon And Utensils Rendered Haram?

    ASA,

There are many scholars online and on youtube those are stating and referencing several Hadith’s that eating in gold or gold plated plates, spoon, utensils and glasses are prohibited in Islam. What is the point of view of Ghamidi Sahab in this regard?

    Jazakallah Khair!

Video and discussions does not have anything about eating in gold plated plates. It does mention about wearing gold/silk but my question is specific to eating in gold plated plates, using gold or gold plated crockery. This is also new to me and there are so many scholars debates online quoting Hadith “Do not drink from vessels of gold and silver, for they are for them in this world and for you in Hereafter” and “Whoever drinks from a vessel of gold or silver is only gulping fire from Hell into his belly”.

    Al-Bukhaari (5633, 5634) and Muslim (2067, 2065).

If you understand the principle, you can extend it to utensils too.

Use of gold for any purpose is not haram in itself, including men wearing gold jewelry or eating in gold plated utensils. Please see verse 7:32.

However, eating in gold-plated utensils might fall under israf (7:31) tabzeer (17:27), which are highly discouraged by God Almighty.
