  • Understanding The Perception Of Shaving Beards As Imitating Women

Posted by Amer Khair on January 30, 2024 at 10:36 am

    Assalamualaikum,

The hadith emphasizing the importance of maintaining a beard encourages us to distinguish ourselves from non-believers by trimming the mustache and letting the beard grow. Ghamidi Sahab has elucidated that growing a beard is recommended, not obligatory.

Nevertheless, a counterargument asserts that shaving the beard goes against the fitrah and may be perceived as imitating women, as traditionally only men grow beards.

Kindly provide a detailed clarification on this argument.

    Thanks

      Thank you.

Can you give more explanation on how shaving the beard is not imitating a female and may I know, what kind of action that will go against the fitrah of a male?

    Salam,

According to Ghamidi Sahab, shaving the beard is not imitating woman because there is still distinction between man and woman even after shaving.

However, the scholars relate the action of shaving beard as imitating woman since beard only grows on man, thus consider it Haram unlike shaving moustache.

    How do you refute it?

    Thanks
