My question is, what was(or were) the view(s) of the Sahabas on hijab? Are there any views that have reached us through authentic chains of transmission?

The Sahaba understood that the special protocols which are now called Hijab were for the prophet’s wives only. The rest of the women did not wear Hijab and if any women tried to adopt the Hijab of the wives of the prophet, she was stopped by the companions. For details, read the article here:

Also, in one of the forums here I saw a tradition mentioning sometimes about a Sahabi woman who had covered her face with a jilbaab and a Sahabi telling her that it’s not necessary for women who have passed their age of marriage, but I cannot find that forum, perhaps it’s been deleted. Could anyone help me find it? Thank you
