    I have 2 questions:

1: Since means of productions are always exempt from Zakaat, isn’t the capital amount invested in a business or stocks also exempt from Zakaat?

2: Do we pay Zakaat for the total assets or on only on the assets beyond the Nisaab. For example (in US) for standard deductions of $13,500 for 2023 as a nisaab for income, do we pay zakaat on income beyond $13,500 or on total? Similarly, for gold beyond 7.5 tola, do we pay Zakaat on total or only that is above 7.5 tola?

    Thank you!

Capital is not considered a means of production.

Once nisab has been met, zakat is due on the entire amount. Though this is an ijtihadi matter and differences of opinion can be found this regard.
