I want to ask, is it true that fast only invalidates if one swallows something, which is the size of a chickpea? If not, then from where did this idea come from?

Such delineation comes from Fuqaha. The essence is to avoid eating or drinking. Minor things are negligible like a morsel stuck in the teeth swallowed. Here they say that it should not be as big as a chickpea. For a cautious person less than this size too a matter of concern. Therefore a person should decide by himself in such matters.
