    Asslam o Alaikum,

I have a question bothering and confusing me, there is a Hadith about Moses slapping an angel. Nowhere in the Quran is this story mentioned, but it is found in the Hadith. Since Hadith refers to the sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH), how did he come to know this story when it is not mentioned in the Quran? If this story originates from the Bible or Torah, could you provide the reference? Also if it is from the Bible or Torah, why would be in Hadith as Muslims don’t believe in these books or they find it corrupted?

When you doubt something, you need to investigate if it is authentic or not and if it is reported correctly or not. So look for the reference and see if it is an authentic or weak or a fabricated story .

The incident is mentioned in Sahih Bukhari 1339 and it is narrated by Abu Huraira (R.A) and it is an authentic Hadith. But the question is not limited to this incident only.

The question is not exactly about the authenticity but more of where did it came from when it is not mentioned in the Quran, how did Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) use to tell this story, if they were from Bible or Torah why are they available in Hadith books when all muslims find Torah and Bible corrupted?

      Wa Alaikum Assalam Shahzaib,
This story (hadith) is clearly fabricated and goes against the teachings of the Qur’an.
When you were asked to investigate, your investigation stopped at “Sahih Bukhari”, but that’s exactly where your investigation should start from.
      Let me explain.
First, Not all “Sahih” hadith are 100% accurate.
Secondly, even if we assume the chain of narration is 100% accurate, (i.e. Sahih), we still need to scrutinise the source! e.g. Abu Huraira already is a red flag when it comes to hadiths. A massive number of his hadiths are problematic (many goes against the Qur’an, many degrade women, a few even defame/insult/mock our Prophets, etc.)
Abu Huraira is known for inventing false stories and directing them to Nabi (saw), i.e. narrating fabrications. For example, Abu Huraira narrated in Sahih Bukhari #5355 a whole hadith, a disgraceful one, and when asked “Did you hear that from Allah’s messenger?, Abu Huraira replied “No, it is from my own self” !!
Another instance in Sahih Muslim (#2493) where Abu Huraira was narrating a hadith while Aisha (ra) was praying, at the end when Aisha (ra) finished he was gone, she claimed I wish he was here so I could confront him because “Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) did not narrate the hadith as you narrate it”. !
There are other instances where Abu Huraira was confronted by other Sahaba on transmitting false hadiths.
Worst part is when they translate this critical parts of hadiths, they twist the meaning to not raise alarms. Always check the source and never rely on the tricks of Sunni scholars. (Sorry not trying to be disrespectful, but truth needs to be exposed).
Now my question to you Shahzaib is.. those are a few instances where Abu Huraira was caught with his lies, that’s because he was confronted or heard by someone who could verify – What about the thousands of ahadith where no one re-confirmed “Hey Abu Huraira is this really from the Prophet?” … My best bet is that the hadith you quoted is yet another invention.
Bottom line is, the “Sahih Sanad” (even if accurate) doesn’t automatically make a hadith authentic.
Just wanted to share my understandings. I hope this helps

Ahadith are not mentioned in the Quran. They are reported sayings and actions of the prophet.

The cited hadith is present in the authentic books of hadith, however it is correct or not, depends upon many factors. It might be a matter of a dream shown to the prophet or a misreporting by Abu Huraira who sometimes ascribed the Israelite stories to the prophet. However, the accusation of inventing false stories by him is not true.

I appreciate both of Hasan and Irfan answers and thoughts.

Let me clarify one thing, the upper most book for me is Quran and any other book which goes against Quranic teachings won’t be accepted in my sight. Hasan, few months back, I used to be believer that any hadith in Sahih Bukhari or Muslim would be true and authentic but now I doubt it.

But brothers, probably you guys have misunderstood my question here. My question is different from the answers I have received yet.

I try to make it easier that, if there is 100% Authentic Hadith about any incident of Moses or Jesus and not mentioned in Quran, how did Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) told it? Let’s make it more easier, nowhere in Quran “Eve” name is mentioned, it is taken from Bible, Muslims don’t believe in Torah and Bible and find it corrupted, why do they use this name then?

The previous devine books are too a source of knowledge when they coincide or doesn’t contradict Qur’an. Qur’an itself asks the people of book to establish and follow their books see sure Nisa and Maida. Qur’an refers to them for details at some occasions. These books are the books of Islam. These are Torah and injeel.

The bible is the collection of many books in addition to Torah and injeel and Zabur. Also there is Talmud. Which contain unauthentic information too. It is not necessary to discard these have to accepted in the light of Qur’an.

Secondly the prophet used to receive news like that of the signs of the doomsday from God through Jibrael and in his dreams. This information is not mentioned in the Qur’an.
