  • Is Adoption Required To Be Open And With Muslim Biological Parents?

In some countries, adoption can be open (biological parents are known and keep in touch with the child) or closed. Moreover, the reasons for adoption may be teenage pregnancy or inability to financially afford a child. In these cases, a child is given away to state or a family adopts them.

Can a married muslim couple adopt a child:

    1. If one or both of the biological parents don’t want any contact with the child?

    2. If the biological parents are non-muslims and were not married?

An abandoned child can be adopted, no matter what is the reason of abandoning him. It is rather an act of kindness. It makes no difference that child is an offspring of a married couple or not. However the child must know that he is adopted. His father’s name cannot be substituted if known.
