Zakat To Political Campaigns Supporting Palestinian Cause
AA – A number of candidates (Muslim and Non-Muslim) in the US state and federal elections are putting up a desperate and respectable fight for Palestine’s cause, and Muslim American interests. They require sizable donations to counter $100M+ goals declared by well-known organizations. I was just in a “small” fundraiser where we hit our community for $20,000 (and Alhamdulillah got there). We are hitting the community daily now. But I believe these are existential issues, and donating funds to these campaigns is vital.
Question is: can we allocate from our Zakat money to these campaigns?
We should of course still continue to give to charity orgs, but preserving a democratic voice in the US for the Palestine/Muslim cause is a high order, practical priority, especially in this election year. We may not get that chance repeatedly.
Will really appreciate Ghamidi sahib’s guidance on this, Insha Allah. -

Zakat the collective fund, is supposed to be used for the welfare of society. If you think that the cause is justified, you can use Zakat for that too.
