    Does turning one’s head towards the west matter while praying the salat? Or what does the Aayat mean which is translated as;

    “It’s not righteous that you turn your heads towards the east or the west; but righteousness is that you believe in God, the day of resurrection, His angels, His revelations, His apostles and spending His blessings to help the needy and the poor…..”

    Does this ayaat show that namaz is secondary in islam?

    The context of this verse is to refute some assumptions of the people of book. They didn’t it value the essence of faith, all their emphasis was on the apparent signs and symbols. The like we see in our people who are very particular about certain religious acts but do not adopt the real spirit of faith.

    This verse is about their emphasis on their self appointed direction or qibla, not about prayer.
