Most of the video games feature a male playable character that you play as but women are getting involved into video games in recent years and companies are also starting to appeal to them by featuring main character to be a female.

Meaning, sometime women will be forced to play as male characters and sometime men will be forced to play as female characters if they want to experience certain story-based video games, interacting with the characters in the story as a gender they don’t identify with.

I was wondering if there is any concern for a Muslim’s tazkiya in such a situation? (i.e any danger of mimicking the opposite gender in a fictional video game).

This is not falsehood or deception, but a game, no matter who is the actual person behind it. So there is nothing ethically wrong as far as the given description is concerned.
