The word thank in Arabic is Shukr.

See the verses 12 of Surah Luqman.

Thank you Dr. Irfan for your guidance. This ayat says Be thankful to Allah . I am looking for ‘ Shukraan Allah’ like we say Thank you Allah.

The phrase does not exist in Qur’an.

The phrase that is taught to us is Alhamdulillah in Surah Fatihah which Ghamidi Sahab translates and comments:

    Gratitude [2] is for God only……(Qur’an 1:2)

[2] The actual word is: اَلْحَمْد. In the Arabic language, this word is used to acknowledge the qualities and excellence of someone and if the person who expresses this word also benefits from the said qualities and excellence, the element of gratitude automatically enters the meaning of the word. It is evident from verse 43 of Sūrah al-A‘rāf, verse 10 of Sūrah Yūnus and verse 39 of Sūrah Ibrāhīm that in the expression اَلۡحَمۡدُ لِلّٰهِ the word اَلۡحَمۡد is used to connote gratitude. In this particular sūrah, it portrays the sentiments of gratitude and appreciation that one is filled with or should be filled with after viewing the unfathomable providence and profound mercy of the Almighty and the reminder of the prophets of God regarding the reward and punishment that is to take place in the Hereafter.

If you want a phrase for “Thank you Allah” in any language of your choice, you may need to look outside the Qur’an.

There is also a Hadith which narrates Prophet’s (PBUH) choice of words for thanking Allah. https://sunnah.com/abudawud:5073 (but authenticity is considered weak by Al-Albani but very good by Al-Nawawi).

Thank you for such detailed reply. I recently started wondering why Allah Almighty has chosen this manner of gratitude through praise rather than thanks… must have been some deep reason. To me offering thanks via praise is more logical, a virtue of acceptance of His blessings, and embed respect.

God’s blessings and bounties are countless and profound. His gratitude should be profound as much as possible. The more we realize His blessings the more we tend to show our gratitude to Him. All the ways to show gratitude, known to man, are adopted to thank God. They include His praises, praying to Him, obeying Him and sacrifceing oneself to Him. The whole Deen is a demonstration of our gratitude to Him. His gratitude is the spirit of Deen.

Indeed Dr. Irfan , Allah’s blessings are unlimited, it’s human capacity and patience that gets exhausted in prolonged moments of trial.
