Ornaments are not haram. But since gold especially is used to show off, by the rich and kings, therefore it was discouraged for men to wear it. On the other hand women are supposed to wear it for beautification. If it is normal on some occasion like wedding and the intention is not to show off, a man my decide to wear it.
