  • What's The Recourse When Someone Adds A Pillar In Salah By Mistake?

Assalamu Alaikum, if someone accidentally adds a pillar in Salah and remembers during Salah or after, what should they do? If we only have to do sujood as sahw, what is the proof of this? JazakAllahu Khairan.

    Wa Alaikum Assalam,

If someone accidentally adds a pillar in Salah and remembers during or after the prayer, they should perform the Sujood as-Sahw (Prostration of Forgetfulness).

The proof for this is based on the Hadith:
“Ibn Mas’ud (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said:

‘If one of you forgets in his prayer and does not know how many (rak’ahs) he has prayed, three or four, except that he knows, let him perform two prostrations while sitting, and then give the Salam. And that will be his expiation for forgetting in his prayer.'” (Abu Dawud)

    In another Hadith:

“Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: ‘If one of you stands up in prayer and forgets, let him prostrate twice.'” (Ibn Majah)

These Hadiths indicate that Sujood as-Sahw is the prescribed remedy for forgetting or adding a pillar in Salah.

May Allah guide us and help us perfect our worship. JazakAllahu Khairan for your question!

“Imran ibn Husayn says that the Prophet (sws) prayed the asr prayer and after three rakat turned to say the salam and then went over to his room. A person called Khirbaq who had very long hands told him of this. He came out in anger dragging his cloak behind him and asked the people: “Is he telling the truth.” When they confirmed it, the Prophet (sws) prayed one more rakat and then turned to say the salam. He then offered two prostrations and then again turned to say the salam”.
