Boundaries Of State In Stopping Obscenity

A state has the right to implement laws against obscenity, however, they’re not allowed to prescribe a dress code.

Jazak’Allah. The discussion thread was very enlightening sir.

I just have two more questions:

1. Wouldn’t you need to define what constitutes an ‘obscene’ dress in order to stop people from wearing ‘obscene’ clothes? Or are you of the view that the concerned authorities should judge ‘obscenity’ on a case by case basis, whenever such an incident happens?

2. Secondly, in a multi-religious country like India/Lebanon/US, if a Muslim government comes to power, should it make laws on ‘obscenity’ only for the Muslims in that country, or should such laws be implemented on the whole county?

Obscenity is defined by the state bodies. It has nothing to do with multi-religious societies since indecency is a universal concept. However, if there’s any disagreement it can be settled with the majority rule.
