  • Buying Of Mystery Box?

If the seller and buyer both are agree.

Then the buying of mystery box (having unknown items) permissible?

    For example

    Container maal/ lot ka maal.

we don’t know exactly what is in it or sometimes just have an idea like this is related to electronics or this is related to garments etc. There may be an expensive or may be a cheap item in it.

We just have the idea of its weight.

Or on online plateforms like amazon daraz etc we buy mystery box but don’t know what is in it.

Is the buying of unknown stuff in this way is permissible?

considering both parties are agreed on the deal.

Containers/lots are sold on a weight basis because they are imported from the markets where either they have already been used or are no longer in demand. The basis seems reasonable and considering the norms of such imports, there is usually no element of fraud and deception, because the buyer is already aware that there could be defects with the product inside the container, and they hope to rebrand, refurbish and resell those products in their local markets at a profit.

As for the mystery box, if both the parties agree to a particular business transaction and no party feels being deceived after conclusion of the transaction, then there is no reason to consider this arrangement prohibited. This arrangement seems more like a marketing strategy, because if the buyer is losing in such arrangements, then no one would go for them, and mystery boxes would have ended a long time ago. It is also my understanding that such boxes are not completely blind, buyers do have some idea regarding the products inside these boxes and sometimes they are tailored to the needs of the buyer based on a questionnaire filled beforehand.
