And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.

No such claim has been made by Quran that human beings are “Ashraf-ul-Makhluqat“. It is something conceived later by human beings. This Quranic verse 17:70 is also pointing to this fact that Human beings are certainly superior to other creatures but this superiority is not absolute. This also means that there are some creatures which are superior to human beings as well.
