First Believe Or First Read?
Posted by Ali on September 27, 2025 at 12:42 pmDo we first need to believe that the Qur’an is the word of God, or should we read it first and then decide whether it is the word of God or not?
If we begin by believing, then naturally we cannot question anything in the Qur’an—because who can question God?
But if we read the Qur’an first, we may find many things that seem immoral or human in nature, such as learning through trial and error.
My question is: are there any other things, apart from the Qur’an, that people believe in without any foundation—whether reason, logic, past experience, or actual demonstration?Dr. Irfan Shahzad replied 1 week ago 3 Members · 19 Replies -

First Believe Or First Read?

Scholar September 28, 2025 at 11:51 pmYou should start with that Qur’an to know how it can be the word of God. Read it’s history. That how a book full of knowledge and wisdom came from a man who had no training in education, law, literature and history,. Then read quran of find anerss to your queries.

Member September 30, 2025 at 6:37 pmRespectfully, history tells us much more about this man as well.
For now, the question remains the same: do we have to believe first in order to understand the knowledge or wisdom?
If so, why do we need to believe first?
If not, then there are many immoral things in the Quran where we can only say, “God said so, so it is right.” And we can only say, “God said so, so it is right” if we believe first.
So, why must we believe first?

Member October 1, 2025 at 12:54 amI went through this process and thus I may be able to guide.
1. First you need to be a good human being trying to do good to others as you know good from inside you (perhaps not what others told you).
2. Then you need to be searching for truth and questioning your existence and place in this universe.
3. If you find yourself curious about your existence, search for the entity that created everything.
4. Start by searching for the creator by looking into major religions through their authentic book (Not by what each religions’ believers say or do)
5. Make sure their book is 100% authentic since the day it was revealed; otherwise reject it because it can’t be a word of god if people changed it.
6. Once you find an authentic book, find a reliable and easy to read translation and research to your satisfaction to make sure the book is a word of god; not something that can be written by a human being. Once you gain confidence that it can only be a word of god..
7. Then you have achived certain level of belief. To strengthen the belief, read the book to understand its core message. Initially just try to understand the core message and the shortest and simple path to achieve a successful afterlife.

Member October 1, 2025 at 5:26 amI agree with the first three points.
So the question still remains: do we have to start searching for the Creator by first believing that it is the word of God?
If so, why should we believe first that it is the word of God?
If we read it first, there is tremendous evidence that it could not be the word of God.
Nadeem Sir, Which Quranic verses or paragraph made you gain confidence that it must be word of God?

Member October 2, 2025 at 12:44 amI didn’t believe in god initially and I hated all religions and religious people. I was an atheist.
At certain age, I became curious of my existence and to find the truth, I decided to look into major religions. I thought billions of people can’t be stupid. There must be something in religion. I started with Christianity because it has the most followers, but rejected it in a day when I approached a Christian missionary and found out that they have 60 books and all of them are significantly different from each other and all of them have been significantly modified by humans and that original manuscripts does not exist.
Secondly, I took upon Islam and based on nonMuslim researchers I found out that it is an original manuscript that has not been modified. That was my starting point towards Islam. Next I downloaded many reliable English translations in Excel and started studying very carefully and thoroughly to determine if it is a word of god.
Two things helped me determine that it is a word of god. First one is a subjective items. When I read the book it touched my heart and cried so much. Reading made me realize that no man can write like this and can’t deliver the message as it is delivered in Quran.
Still it was not an objective assessment. Then I looked into all the scientific references that are stated in Quran. No one at that time could have known the relities of the universe and everything in it at that time. There are no scientific mistakes in Quran and there is so much science in it that science has not even reached that level yet. Then the organization and mathematics in Quran. No human or group of humans could write a book with such mathematical accuracy. For example, the number of times hell and junnah mentioned in quran, number of times the word water mentioned, etc.
After realizing that it is certainly a book from god, I studied very carefully for 5 years and looked for the answers to all my 100s of questions. The book answered all my questions. I have no questions left to be answered. I am fully satisfied and 100% in belief that there is only one God and that is Allah. All religions in the world are sects of Islam just modification of Allah’s message by people. I believe Quran is the last and final word of Allah.
If you contact me, I will provide you much details and information.

Member October 2, 2025 at 12:51 amNo, you should start by having any judgement for or against any book regarding whether it is or it is not a book of god. You are not supposed to believe first that it is a book of god. You should determine by rwading it carefully.
And I respectfully disagree with you that there is tremendous evidence that this book is not from god. Instead everything in this book provides evidence that it is from a god. We just need to read it carefully.

Member October 2, 2025 at 7:05 amYes, I’ve read your messages carefully — thank you.
A numerical miracle can only serve as additional support for a belief we already hold — namely, that the Qur’an is the word of God. The person who discovered such a numerical pattern already believed it to be divine revelation, and then went to great lengths to find evidence of it. Neither Allah nor the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) instructed us to search for numerical discoveries in the Qur’an.
This leaves us with subjective experiences when reading the Qur’an. For example, I’ve cried while reading it — but I’ve also felt emotional while listening to songs, naats, and other moving recitations. Yet, we never considered those songs to be the word of God because no one told us they were.
This suggests that when we read the Qur’an, we already have in our minds that it is the word of God because everyone told us this. When we then experience an emotional reaction, such as crying, we take it as confirmation of that belief.
We already know how to read books.
So the real question is: which specific verses did you read that made you realize, “This must be the word of God”?

Member October 6, 2025 at 2:46 amYou stated, “A numerical miracle can only serve as additional support for a belief we already hold”. This is not true. First a numeric analysis is objective analysis. Second, why can’t anyone find it in any other book in the world.
I earlier shared a minor portion of scientific references in Quran. Quran is not a book of science, but a book to signs for those who are seeking truth. So, it includes some reference to science as signs for those who want to make sure this book is from god.
Someone I spoke incorrectly argued that such science was known at Prophet Muhammad’s times in some other parts of the World. Let’s suppose it did, but in those time, plenty of incorrect science prevailed. Why not any of incorrect science was included in Quran. Did prophet (pbuh) conduct elaborate experiments and separated the correct science from the incorrect one and then included in Quran? Quran includes science in Astronomy, Biology, Anatomy, embryology, geology, botany, mathematics, physics, etc.
Also, Allah mentions in Quran that it can only be understood by sincere ones and Allah has taken responsibility to guide those who are seeking guidance. Quran is designed in such a way, that it guides sincere ones who are honestly and objectively looking for answers for their creation and creation of this universe. Those who think profoundly and think deep to explore the purpose of their creation.
While the others who just focus on rejecting it, Quran leads them to find reasons to reject. There is no guidance for them.

Member October 15, 2025 at 5:17 amMr. Ali. Does the above references not give you a strong reasoning that it is a book from the God. If you are not a person of science, then the only thing that can prove to you that it is a book from the God is to read it with a clear and unbiased mind and with an intent to sincerely look for answers to the creation. The contents, the message, the style and the tone will tell your heart that it is a book from the god.

Scholar October 3, 2025 at 5:38 amWhen you find a book that says it is the book of science, art, or philosophy, you simply read it to find out if the title is true or not. The same goes for a book that claims that it is the word of God. You simply read it to find if the claim is justified or not. If you find it justified, accept it; if not, reject it. If you need to verify your understanding, you may consult its experts.

Member October 8, 2025 at 5:05 pmWhy do you believe that the claim that the Qur’an is the word of God is justified? What evidence or realization made you come to that conclusion — was it something about its language, message, consistency, or the impact it has on people that convinced you it could not have been written by a human being?

Member October 9, 2025 at 11:05 amThe video you shared presents an argument that could serve as additional support for our existing belief that the Quran is the Word of God.
You previously said:
> ‘The same goes for a book that claims it is the word of God. You simply read it to determine whether the claim is justified or not.’
Based on your statement and our reasoning, it’s clear that we need to read the book in order to evaluate the claim.
So the question remains: Which verses in the Quran made you realize that the claim of it being the Word of God is justified? -

Scholar October 15, 2025 at 6:14 amThis is not circular argument because the evidences which can be verified are present there for our judgment. Qur’an a book full of complexed symmetrical knowledge came from a man of no knowledge, Qur’an is irreplaceable, preserved, as challenged, all its prophecies came true, as claimed, the fate of bani Israel has to follow the same pattern determined for them by God till date, all these are the living evidences of Qur’an being the word of God. Spend some time on verifications of the evidences I just mentioned and then decided.
