  • Fixed Time Of Death

Posted by Ammar Ahmed on September 16, 2025 at 8:22 pm

I have gone through almost all the content related to this topic both from this forum and all other Ghamidi Sb’s videos and am familiar with his explanation for years, but just want to clear out a few confusions that I’ve never been able to resolve.

    1) Firstly, when he says that the ajal (fixed term) is not in terms of a specific date/day but events or sequence of events, but since Allah’s knowledge includes everything and he also knows the specific date/day you’re gonna die as well, then the day/date/time/method of your death would be fixed no? Regardless of whether its related to your decisions or acts or choices but it’s still fixed at God’s end right even if I’m under no compulsion? So this seems sort of like a paradox to me when Quran’s verses are plain related to this and give the understanding that you’re gonna go at your appointed time so don’t worry about it. Ghamidi Sahab’s explanations sort of complicate the whole concept in my head, which I will explain more.

    2) For the example that Ghamidi Sb gives to explain this whole concept, the rizq one where your rizq is appointed according to your actions and choices, how much is your time of death analogical to that exactly? Is it completely dependent on my actions? Because if it was, where does the fixed term come in? Doesn’t Allah decide whether I’m gonna take someone suddenly, or in childhood, or in youth, old age etc. and hence why we have a fixed/appointed/limited term? Then how much can I change my time of death based on how good I take care of my health etc.? Seemingly healthy/fit people go suddenly in youth, children pass away, doctors gave up on Stephen Hawking for example but he lived till old age. If its based on my choices, then the appointed term keeps changing? For example, in a certain scenario (a disease for example), if I choose choice A as remedy then I would live for X and if I choose choice B I would live for Y years?

So what I mean to say is, the simple Quranic explanation taken at its outward meaning makes much more sense to me, that you have a fixed term and when its over you’re gonna die, and these explanations just complicate it so much in my head.

I know my question is all over the place, and apologies if this violates guidelines but I didn’t know how else to get it all out in words. If someone can help me make sense of things or better my understanding, would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Once a man is born, he has a time to die ultimately, and the rizq to receive anyway. These are already known to God, so He refers to the appointed time of death and a specific amount of rizq. It does not mean that God necessarily appoints or fix it.

Would you clarify sir? I’ve always thought of the Quranic verses regarding the time of death conveying the meaning that Allah gives us respite till a specific term known to him, and when it is time to go it can’t be delayed. Doesn’t God appoint this? If it was totally dependent on us, how come healthy children/young people suddenly pass away either through a disaster or otherwise? Doesn’t Allah decide how much time will be given to us?

The natural forces of cause and effect and human efforts combine to produce results. God does not always direct the results. However, whenever He wills, He changes the course of action.

I have seen it sir, and I understand your position, but the Quranic verses that relate to this concept, don’t they point towards a term prescribed by Allah for every soul? It’s not entirely conditional/dependent on us/based on our choices right? That’s why I mentioned how children pass away young, others die at child birth, some healthy fitness enthusiasts pass away suddenly, so what I mean was it’s Allah’s choice then ke kis ko kitni mohlat deni hai dunya pe right? Hence the term ajal musamma. Isn’t that Ghamidi Sb’s viewpoint too, where he mentions its not necessarily a fixed date but a sequence of events. Is your time of death taqdir muallaq, mubarram, or a mixture of both? That’s what I needed clarification on, your explanation seems a bit too simple. And since everything that will happen and its time is already in Allah’s knowledge, what you will do and how your life will unfold, and by his permission your death will occur at a time that he wills when your test in this world is over, then why complicate the basic premise that the day of your death is fixed? It’s fixed on Allah’s end right? Like our Punjabi elders say, “Jehri raat qabar che likhi ay oh bahar nai aani”.

My whole confusion started with Ghamidi Sb’s explanation, I mean why is it being made so complicated? The Quran verses at face value just tell you there is a term for you in this world fixed by Allah, why has this school of thought complicated it so much? Please help me understand, maybe I’m missing something.

Ghamidi Sahab’s understanding is primarily based on Quran 13:38-39 where according to his understanding the basis of Taqdeer-r-Mubram and Muallaq have been provided. Please see the videos in the following thread.

Thanks for the videos, but still, would time of death fall under taqdir e muallaq or mubaram? That part is still not clear, I remember watching a video where Ghamidi sb was mentioning things we have no control over, and he also mentioned how much time we will be given on Earth.

Give yourself sometime and keep pondering upon it. Complete your thought process to reach a conclusion in the light of the evidences of the quran and the real world.
