Knowingly Committing Haram
Assalamualaikum
Many things like music are considered haram in Islam.But for example if a person lives in a society where people thinks it’s haram and he doesn’t know that there are other opinions in which it’s halal.So if he listens to music while he has in mind that it’s haram,is he doing a sin?

Music has no absolute prohibition in Islam. The real prohibition is that of immorality and polytheism. Music as well as any other activity which contains these elements is obviously considered prohibited. For details please see:

With that said, if someone commits a prohibited act in ignorance, or carelessly commits a permissible act while thinking that the act was prohibited by God, in either case he has wronged himself and should sincerely repent as soon as the realization sets in. Insha’allah such acts will be forgiven.

That is ok.but.For example:alcohol even a drop is haram.There is a opinion in hanafi where a little alcohol is halal(not sure which extent).If a person drinks little alcohol considering it halal would he be sinful (i am not saying if he repents later or not etc). Similarly if a person knows (according to hanafi school of thought) that all seafood except fishes is haraam.If he eat some seafood except fishes (having in mind it is haraam, intentionally),would he be sinful (because except hanafi all says that all seafood is halal)?in short if a person eats something intentionally considering it haraam(which is actually not haram),would he be sinful?

What’s most important to focus on is our attitude towards the realization that what we might have committed was wrong. Whether or someone is necessarily considered sinful in the eyes of God can vary depending upon his intent as well as individual circumstances. In principle, what we do know with certainty though is that if a person knowingly disregards what he considers to be an injunction from God due to arrogance then he has committed a sin.
