Why does Allah need for people to pray to him and why would he punish people who wouldn’t worship him when he can simply make them worship him?

Firstly, please understand that worship is an expression of gratefulness and humility. It is not something which God needs. Rather, it is man’s acknowledgement of servitude to God.Secondly, the overall motive of religion is to guide people in achieving purification, so as to be eligible for the Paradise. Each act of worship is intended to help us in purifying ourselves. For example, namaz is intended to remind us of God five times a day so that we do not forget Him and the true purpose of life in our busy worldly affairs.
