Is Balsamic Vinegar/Vinaigrette Dressing Halal?
AoA,
Hope you are doing well. I have read mixed opinions whether the balsamic vinegar is halal or not. I have read the following opinions:
1. It depends on the source of alcohol
2. It is not halal, not because of the wine but because of the grape musk.
3. Halal if it is cooked/consumed in the food
And many others. Kindly guide if we can use it in accordance with the principles of Islam. Thank you.

This is a great question! The permissibility of balsamic vinegar can depend on the scholar’s opinion.
Here’s what I’ve heard: some scholars consider balsamic vinegar halal because the fermentation process removes the intoxicating element of wine. Others might say it depends on the production process, specifically if the grapes were fermented with the intention of making vinegar.
In any case, if you’re unsure, you can always opt for a different type of vinegar or make your own dressing with lemon juice or another halal alternative.

Any thing which intoxicates in large quantity is prohibited in small quantity as well. However, if that product goes through a chemical transformation so that it removes its intoxication effect, then it would no longer be considered prohibited. Secondly, any intoxicants present in a product such that that they do not intoxicate a person when the product is consumed in large quantities, such a product would also be Halal to consume. Ghamidi Sahab considers transformation of wine into vinegar a change of chemical composition and hence perfectly fine to consume. If Balsamic Vinegar is any different from regular vinegar then you can study the case in the light of the above mentioned principles.
