I wanted to know if standup comedy is permissible in Islam. As it is becoming a source of laughter these days and i myself have been doing it for past few months. I saw some videos related to this and there is a hadith that concludes that telling fake stories to make people laugh is not permissible. Beacuse people will think that he/she is telling the truth or they can get the idea that he is talking truth. So i am a bit confused about it. Most people who watch standup knows that its a made up story, and to make it clear what if before or after the performance we tell the audience that this is fiction and none of it is true. They are jokes and its just for fun. Will that be allowed?
And if not then what is allowed. Cuz i write mostly madeup stories about myself so i want to clear some things out. is there any way it is permissible?

Lie and fiction are two different things. In lying, one wants other people to believe that it is true, while in fiction, it is declared that it is not a reality but made up for entertainment or for other purposes. The Quran also uses Tamseel or allegorical stories to convey a message.
