Assalamu Alaikum, sahih al bukhari 1239 says that we are ordered to follow a funeral procession, visit the sick and we are forbidden to use silver utensils. What about the utensils we use at home for our dishes, spoons, etc? And also, please explain about the following a funeral. As women, do we have to do this too? Is this a communal obligation or individual? And what if a person has a small cold, must we visit them in this case? JazakAllahu Khairan.

Not every command is obligatory. Following a funeral is a good act. It requires people to make the necessary arrangements for burial. Women are not forbidden to follow the funeral, but usually men do this job.

Using silver utensils was a sign to show off one’s wealth. It does not apply to ordinary utensils.

Things are forbidden or condemned for something objectionable about them. If an objectionable reason or cause is associated with them, they are forbidden; if the reason or cause is no longer associated with them, they are no longer forbidden.
