  • Reward For Reading The Quran In Bengali Vs Arabic?

I am from Bangladesh. Is there any special virtue or reward for reading the Qur’an in Arabic? The Qur’an was revealed for us to understand it. But when I read it in Arabic, I don’t understand anything. Scholars often say that there are many virtues in reciting the Qur’an in Arabic, and that it brings blessings in life. Is there any real basis for this? If I read the Qur’an in Bengali for my whole life, will I be missing something? Is there any need or benefit in reciting it in Arabic? Will a person get 10 rewards for each letter when reading the Qur’an in Bangla (translation)? Or, if someone doesn’t know how to read Arabic but tries hard to read the Qur’an, will they still get rewards — even if they are reading the Bangla translation? Please explain this matter in detail.

Everything things has its significance. Reading the Qur’an in the word of God has its own significance. But of course not everyone is capable of or has time to learn Arabic. The purpose is to understand the message of God. If one choose to read the Qur’an in one’s own tongue this is good enough.

May Allah grant you a good reward, brother. I have a couple more questions:

      1) Regarding the virtues of certain Surahs (chapters): We find Ahadith (Prophetic narrations) about the great merits (Fadil/Fadilah) of various Surahs, such as Surah Al-Mulk, stating that they will intercede (sha’fa’ah) or bear witness for the reader on the Day of Judgment. Similarly, we find that reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas three times is equivalent in reward (sawab) to reciting the entire Qur’an once.

My question is: If someone only reads the translation of these specific Surahs in their native language (e.g., Bengali), will they still receive these specific rewards/merits mentioned in the Ahadith? For example, if someone recites the translation of Surah Al-Ikhlas three times in Bengali, will they still get the reward of reading the entire Qur’an once?

      2) Regarding the sequence of reading: If someone has not read the entire Qur’an in their native language (Bengali translation), but they regularly read the Arabic Qur’an, will they receive the reward (sawab) for reading it? Or is it more important (dhururi) for them to first read the entire Bengali translation of the Qur’an?

Regarding the frist question, the fazail about individual suras are not authentic.

Regarding the second question, to learn Arabic words of the Qur’an is one thing and to understand is another. Both can go simultaneously. It is not necessary to delay one for the other.
