Taqleed E Shakhsi
Assalamualaikum!
Is it true that many scholars of earlier centuries and even later scholars (like Shah Wali ullah), did not support Taqleed of one specific person or school of thought attributed to one person?
This is the impression I got while reading the Book Miyar Up Haq by Syed Nazeer Hussain Dehalvi.

There was no concept of following a single authority earlier. With the passage of time, some prominent scholars were followed by the majority of the people for several reasons. But still, it is not an obligation or demand of Deen. Rather to follow one blindly is not required in Islam.
