How Can A Common Man Understand Islam?

I believe that if someone reads a good Quran translation he can get a decent understanding of the message of God. However, in order to understand how the religion is practiced, he will have to learn from others. For example, he will have to learn to pray salat from other Muslims or read about it elsewhere. Similarly, in order to make sense of the philosophy of the Quran, the foundation of it’s principles, the very problems that it’s laws address, as well as the overall world view it presents, he will have to seek the help of other learned individuals.

I mean understanding Quran translation with help of schlors or with help of tafseers and also person learns how religion is practiced..is this sufficient?
