Watching Violence, Shirk And Vulgarity In Movies And Dramas
Posted by Momin Khan on October 21, 2024 at 3:03 pmFrom reading some discussion of watching movies and dramas is my understanding is correct that watching inappropriate scenes such as murdering, robering, showing shirk, vulgar etc is not countable sin unless I practice them it by myself. Is this correct?

Vulgarity (or Fawahish to be more specific) on the other hand is prohibited even in its lowest form, whether it be abusing, vulgar talk or watching others do it for entertainment purposes, it is sinful (Sagheera Gunnah).

Also I don’t remember that fawahish also included cursing I have read at various threads that it means indecent acts like spreading details of sexual nature, adultery etc. how does listening to others curse is a sin when you don’t even endorse it

Unintentional mistakes are not your fault like in the example of a foreign movie with different translation.

Member October 4, 2025 at 8:09 amSo what can you suggest me how to watch a movie and not listen or skip the parts that includes cursing. Because it is not really that easy and censored versions of series or movies are mostly not available too.
Also watching movies where the protagonist are shown in a haram relationship like if I skip the inappropriate but still the men and women shown to be dating which is considered haram in Islam so would such movies come under fawahish? And would be haram to watch them?

Moderator October 9, 2025 at 9:41 amAvoid the Fawahish (in any form) and watch the rest.
If something does not fall under Fawahish, then it is not considered prohibited. The definition and the applications have been clearly explained in the thread shared above.
Rest is upto you, how much indirect linkage with such acts you’d like to avoid.

Even if we skip I appropriate parts wouldn’t it be still supporting the producers in wrong which is prohibited in 5:2 because it will give them profit from something sinful and it does get a higher boost gets recommended to other people and we never know will they skip the haram parts or not would this come under facilitating sin and would I be sinful for their actions too?

Moderator October 15, 2025 at 2:21 amIt does not fall within facilitation. Facilitation in this context (Taawun Al Ithm) invokes when both the parties are benefiting from the profit. How you want to implement it in your life is your decision. The principles have been enumerated clearly.
If extra caution makes you not even get a glimpse of such movie/drama, then it is encouraged.

And the helping of sin or facilitating it which earns you sins of others as well only then when you are benefiting from that sin too?
Can you give examples of it please?
For e.g I watch a reel about shirk the person may be influenced by my view or he may get paid for that view even a little still that counts. Others also get to see that reel because of algorithm. Is the blame on me? For being a source that others watch it, they may get influenced by it and the person would get money for the spreading of shirk. Am I facilitating the sin?

Moderator October 21, 2025 at 6:13 amNo, this does not fall under facilitation.
The answers have already been provided. I’ll be repeating the same answers again.

Member October 21, 2025 at 7:26 amCan you provide the examples of facilitation? Is the condition there that both parties would benefit?
But in case of good deeds it’s not necessary that both parties are benefiting e.g you tell someone to stop doing a sin they do so you also get the good deeds for it why? Same case for asking someone to do sin
Why not in facilitation then?

Moderator October 22, 2025 at 8:20 amThis is a separate topic for which you have already posted a separate question.
Asking someone to do good deeds is not considered facilitation. Similarly, asking someone to do a bad deed is also not facilitation. Facilitation has to do with involvement in execution of the activity in some way.
