Why Daughters Are Burden?
A women may perform many duties as a wife,as a mother but as a daughter she is just a burden. What possible she can do for her parents except loving them? So ultimately people are right for not having desire of daughters but sons. If there is not any speciel case, generally it is true that daughters are only a responsibility for parents…Even if They succeed in life what possible Daughters can benefit their parents? probably nothing…

Its a cultural thing. Since, parents are supposed to give dowry to daughter, they consider it as burden.
Religiously, there is no directive which indicate daughters are burden. On the contrary, a hadith reports that the daughter will become sheild for parents on the day of judgement (context: if treated daughters kindly it is rewarding for parents)
