Nisab On Wealth Based On Gold Or Silver
I have a confusion regarding zakat payment. For wealth the nisab is 642 gm silver or 85gm of gold. First of all which one should we choose. Second. This nisab will be subtracted from the total wealth and than percentage applied on the remaining amount or the nisab is just that above this nisab one has to oay zakat on the whole amount??

The actual yardstick in calculating the nisab is silver and not gold or both as is generally held. This misconception seems to have arisen from the equation that existed between silver and gold (7.5 tolas of gold = 52.5 tolas of silver) in the times of the Prophet (sws).
