Can Sons Sleep In The Same Bed As Their Mothers
I recently ready several rulings that it is completely forbidden for sons to sleep in the same bed as their mothers… coming from the Hadith:
“Teach your children to pray when they are seven years old and smack them if they do not do so when they are ten years old, and separate them in their beds”
I thought this meant children approaching puberty lacking the maturity to keep decent behaviour while experiencing puberty. It’s really common for adult sons to sleep in the same bed as their mothers in my family and even hugging them briefly as a show of affection. In fact my husband does this and I always thought it was sweet and made sure his widowed mother wasn’t lonely in her room all the time. Is this really wrong?

The hadith is not authentic. There are no instructions in this regard. Our experiences and our social norms teach us this behaviour. Learn them from your culture. Islam does not teach everything
