    Salamalikum,

Can you please explain when and where last two verses of Al-Baqara was revealed?

Some sources and scholars says it was revealed on the Miraj to prophet Mohammad (saw). Can you please explain with sources.

In the Farahi school the time or event of the revelation of individual verses (also called shan-e-nuzool) holds no significance. The understanding of any given verse becomes clear when we contemplate on the words of the verse and it’s context, as well as the phase of prophethood in which a particular chapter was revealed.

Ideas about times or events of the revelation of verses are generally inexact, and even if accurate they don’t add or take away anything from the required understanding or implications of those verses.

As you might notice, one of the features of Ghamidi sahab’s exegesis Al-Bayan is that it doesn’t rely on the shan-e-nuzool of particular chapters or verses. Instead it describes the phase of prophethood when a certain chapter was revealed, which is evident from the content of the chapter itself.

    Thanks for your reply Faisal.

I understand what you mentioned above. Some scholars put emphasis on these verses because they claim that these were revealed on the Miraj night directly from Allah to prophet Mohammed (saw).

I just want to know if this claim is true or not?

There’s no way to know for sure, but it’s a moot point with the understanding that the time/event of revelation of any verse has no significance.

FYI, you might also want to understand the misconceptions that surround the events of Isra/Meraj.

Agar shane e nuzool ki koi haisiyat nahi hai to phir

      Mufassirien ne ise q apnaya?

Sahaba aur nabi ne is k Zikar kyu Kiya?

Shan e nuzool me to Nabi aur sahab ka qaul hi to hota hai na k kisi muaqa aur Mahal me ye ayaat nazil hui?

Agar Shan e nuzool ko chod de to ek ayat hai jiski tafseer karna mushkil hojaaga

      Surah tauba 9:5

Jaha mushrikeen ko qatal ka hukm hai .ab shan e nuzool se Hi to pata chala k wo khaas Mahal me tha warna Aaj bhi hat mushrik ko qatal karna jaiz tha

Agar uska shan e nuzool nahi padte to.

There is no need to refer to any shan-e-Nazul in order to understand the specific application of Quran 9:5. It is true that it is not described in explicit words, but the context, concomitant factors and the intrinsic indicators in those verses make it clear that al-mushrikin mentioned in those verses related to Muskhrikin of that time and the alif laam used with Mushrikun is that of ‘ehad‘. Reading simple translation of those verses make this point clear. Whatever we find in hadith corpus complement this viewpoint of Quran, but the scheme we follow in understaning Quran is from Quran to Hadith and not the other way round.

Same is the case with narrations on ‘Shan-e-Nazul‘, they are not outrightly rejected, but are referred to and studied in the light of Quran. If the context of Quran demands or refers in some way to see its shan-e-nazul or other historical background or previous divine book, then thsoe sources will be referred. The point here to note is that seqence of understanding Quran shoud not be compromised and Quran should always take precedece on all other supplementary material (Please see: Discussion 56116).

In ahadith both Surah Fatiha and Surah Baqarah last two verses are mentioned. Please also refer to the following thread:
