Scientific Errors In Quran About Semon ..?

Member July 9, 2022 at 10:14 pmThere are two ways to approach this problem
1. The first way is you do textual gymnastics and try to fit science in the verse. Many people go with this approach and here’s their explanation ” The testicles and the ovary take their food from the location between the backbone and the ribs. In other words, the arteries coming from the abdominal aorta and going to the testicles and the ovary pass between the backbone and the ribs. In the same way, the nerves that feed the ovary and testicles come from the cluster of nerves under the stomach, which is literally in the region between the backbone and the ribs. Lymph vessels also emerge from between the backbone and the ribs ” Any honest Muslim would admit this interpretation is very far fetched and against the direct implication of the verse.
2. The second approach is the most sensible in my opinion. The Quran doesn’t care about scientific facts. Forget about the sperm for a while. There are many verses which imply the stars are comets or asteroids (which isn’t true) “And verily We have beautified the world’s heaven with lamps, and We have made them missiles for the devils, and for them We have prepared the doom of flame.” (67:5). What’s really important is the idea of shooting stars. In Arab culture ( many other cultures too ) people believed in the soothsayers who allegedly recieved news of the unseen from the jinn. The Quran wants people to know that the jinns can’t hear the news of the heaven anymore due to the “shooting stars” driving them away. The Quran wants to guide people away from soothsayers. Take another verse, “It is He Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Each of them is floating in its orbit” (21:33) What’s clear is none of the people back then understood the orbit in a scientific manner, ie they didn’t think of the sun going around the milky way, the moon going around the earth. However, we observe (from earth) the sun ( the moon too ) rising and setting , traveling across the horizon. It’s a beautiful phenomenon which we can relate to on a personal level, many poets have used the different stages of the sun to reflect the passage of life from birth and adulthood to death. Now going back to the sperm being created from the backbone, people back then would have rejected the Quran if it said the sperm was created from the testicle as it was against the common belief of the people ( the sperm comes from the area around backbone and ribs ). What God really wants people to think and ponder over is the creation of a human being from an insignificant fluid (sperm). This should make us humble before God.
I will describe a general principle you can use to interpret Quran : The Quran uses the common beliefs and ideas of the people around the Prophet (saw), whether they are unscientific or legendary to impart moral/philosophical lessons, so you should focus on them only. That’s it, there’s no other purpose of the Quran when it describes the world of phenomena. Here’s Hussein Nasr explaining the inferiority complex of some Muslims who try to find “scientific miracles” in the Qur’an.

[86:6] He was created from ejected liquid.
[86:7] From between the spine and the viscera.

The ejection of liquid is described in the verse is between backbone and Viscera (the internal organs in the main cavities of the body, especially those in the abdomen, e.g. the intestines.)

Member July 10, 2022 at 6:50 pmNo, it’s clearly the ejaculation of sperm. As for it being between the backbone viscera, this was the belief of the people at that time. The Quran does use unscientific facts to teach moral/philosophical lessons, l have given two more examples in my answer.
Even if we take your explanation , the food of the male sperm in the testicle ( or female ovary ) is blood and this isn’t ejaculated. The blood is ultimately pumped from the heart , so should we link the semen to the heart (chest) as well ? The Arabs at that time had many misunderstanding of scientific facts and the Quran didn’t bother to correct them as this would give them one more reason to reject the Quran. The Quran instead uses the unscientific facts to impart moral/religious teachings. If you accept this methodology of understanding the Quran, you will never feel troubled by the Quran using unscientific facts or legends
You should also have the same perspective in mind when the Quran addresses popular legends , for eg the Gates of Alexander. Now, we know this story was falsely attributed to Alexander the Great, referred to as the two horned one in a syriac text dating back to 629 or 630 AD. This legend was spread all over the middle east ( or atleast northern Arabia ) to the point the people questioned the Prophet on its content. The Quran didn’t bother to falsify the legend, it infact gave it’s own unique twist to it by describing dhul Qarnain as a righteous king.

P.S: Dhul qar nain is not Alexander the great, man with two horn is also mentioned in Bible. Quran while talking about Dhulqar nain mentioned that the people of book ask you who is dhulqarnain.
Most plausible person is considered Cyrus of Persia.
