  • Bowing Down To Show Respect To People Of East Asian Culture

Context:- Recently I’ve joined a Tae Kwon Do Gym and one of the rules of conduct is to show respect to the dojo master. He bows down in a way in which the bowing posture is that of a semi-ruku position while the hands are still on the side and expects his pupils to do the same to reciprocate the respect. I’ve informed the master that for religious reasons I might be forbidden to bow to anything other than God to which he said that it’s okay and that if I could reciprocate the respect in another way (perhaps joining hands as done in Hindu-Budhist culture). I said that I think that’s fine.

Question:- is it fine to bow in the East Asian style as a respectful greeting? If not how about joining hands to do so?
