Asalam Alaikum. Ustaaz mohtaram tells us that our Deen places a great deal of emphasis on completing and abiding by contracts, laws and policies, specially ones made to our states. Our state has currently banned Twitter as a result of criticism it faced from a certain section of our political landscape after general elections earlier in February. Technically, our state has forbidden us to use that website. I wanted to ask, how bound are we to abide by this rule, according to our social contract with the state? Does bypassing this rule and accessing the website through other ways mean that we are breaking our contract as a citizen and will we be held accountable for it in any degree in the court of Allah?

To abide by the law and rule of land is ordained by God. It is your duty to avoid using it.

In another question, you elaborated that law does not apply to what one does at home.

So what is your opinion on using Twitter in the privacy of your home during the ban?

This is a public activity, not a private one. You talk to and share with the people.
