  • Why Haven’T Sunnis Transmitted Hadiths From Ahlul Bayt

Posted by Shah Faizan on October 11, 2024 at 10:46 am

We all know that Sunnis generally don’t transmit hadiths from Imams like Imam Ja’far or Imam Baqir, but what is the reason for this? Why didn’t hadith scholars like Imam Bukhari take hadiths from them? Did they believe that these Imams were not reliable, or is it because the Imams were, in fact, closer to what the Shias claim them to be, rather than what Sunnis believe?

Please clear you misconception first. According to Quran, Ahle bayt are only wives of Prophet saw. Please see umer sb responses here for understanding. Discussion 28045

Quran is empty of concept of Imamat as defined by Shiites.

Jafar Al Sadiq RA is respected in sunni circle. So it might not be a reliability issue at least for him.

Now what ever some one say on this topic will be just conjecture.
However, Irfan sb response here is quite reasonable. Discussion 100109 • Reply 100110

I’m aware that, according to Ghamidi Sahab’s perspective, Ahlul Bayt refers solely to the wives of the Prophet. That said, we all know there’s a clear difference of opinion between Sunni and Shia schools of thought on this matter. But that’s not really my question. What I’m curious about is, if Imam Jaffar is respected within Sunni circles, why don’t we see hadiths being quoted from him? It seems to me there are only two possibilities: either there’s a lack of trust in his narrations, or perhaps he aligns more with the Shia viewpoint than the Sunni one. What baffles me even more is why, regardless of whether they belong to the Sunni school of thought or other non-Shia ones, people often give strange explanations and justifications that, to be honest, don’t really make much sense.

Imam Jafar’s fiqh was not compiled as reliably as that of Imam Abu Laith, Imam Sufyan Thauri, and mothers. Most the narrators of imam Jafar were Iraqis and they are not considered trustworthy.

Okay, but Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Jafar lived at the same time, so why didn’t Imam Abu Hanifa quote him? I’m sure he must have learned from him, or perhaps he didn’t because Imam Abu Hanifa might have thought that Imam Jafar wasn’t as learned as he was in Islamic knowledge and jurisprudence. What are your thoughts on this?

He was making his own fiqh. He didn’t to compile his figh himself. All his work is based on his legal opinions. He did not quote from othera.

His view about imam Jafar is not not known, at least to me.

That’s the problem… why do we know nothing about Abu Hanifa’s views on the imams of the Shias? It sounds suspicious and makes one believe that maybe their teachings were influenced by Shia thought, which could explain why he neither gave his views nor quoted from them. Only God knows the real reason, but the fact that nothing is recorded from Imam Ja’far, while we still claim to respect him and acknowledge his vast knowledge, does seem a bit contradictory.

As I told you that there were other great scholars but their fiqh was not recorded too. Not every scholar could gather competent disciples to record their work.

The principles of Fiqh Hanafi are known, open to review. If there is anything suspicious one can point it out.

I just don’t find these answers satisfactory, and I really think that Sunnis should stop lying about considering Imam Jafar and other Shia imams knowledgeable when we all know they didn’t. But anyway, thanks for answering, sir.
