  • Does Quran Expect People To Die Rather Than Face Subjugation?

    Thanks to verify whether Quran expects people to die rather than face subjugation. I think I am able to convey the attributed statement better in Urdu, which is;

    “قرآن کے اندر لکھا ہوا ہے کہ ظلم برداشت کرنے سے بہتر ہے مر جاؤ”

    I want to know if above is written in Quran, or can be inferred from what’s written in Quran. And if not then what to say about a person who says this or attributes this statement to Quran.

    I am unaware of such statement in Quran explicitly.

    Perhaps you are referring to 2:191 which contains phrase “For persecution is far worse than killing”.

    If a person say such thing, you can ask whether it was a mistake or matter of interpretation. Without knowing the reason behind, we must avoid labelling some one as it can have serious consequences on society or the individual..

    However, one must avoid making up such things intentionally as it is haram according to verse 7:33. If one does, sincere repentance is better.

    Thank you for your answer. If I am allowed a follow up then here below is the reason or context in which this statement was made.

    A political leader in his effort (at a particular time) to encourage his followers to come out on streets in protest, made this statement.

    So it’s important for me that first the veracity of this statement is checked via someone who has relevant knowledge. And secondly, that political leader’s intention can be correctly interpreted, also to remain on guard in future.

    I understand from your reply that there is no explicit statement in Quran, which encourages people to consider or prefer death over subjugation.

    Is it a correct impression then that from a general understanding of Quran’s message, one may expect at max a call to ہجرت if such an environment exists where one can’t live anymore.

    Thank you again and apology for this longer statement but a further response will be appreciated.

    Was it deliberate or misunderstanding, I am not sure about that political leader mindset at that time.

    Yes from verses 4: 97- 100, one can conclude to emigrate in difficult circumstances or to remain patient (16:127, 2:153).
