Zakat And Qarz
My friend had borrowed some money from me, he had stable financial condition then. but unfortunately his financial condition got bad therefore my question is, ” can I pay off his debt from my own zakat?” So that it helps me a little for some of my personal reasons. Kindly help me in this issue, I am confused a little. From one source I found out that it can not be done, and from another I found out that you can give your zakat first to that person and then take it back as he ows me some money.

To pay off the debt of person is one of the heads of zakat. You can do that, there is no difference of opinions on this issue. There is no need to adopt that formality you mentioned.
