Are the 2 rikkat sunnah before the 2 rikkat fardh of fajr prayer mandatory?
I have been told that unlike other “sunnah” the 2 rikkat sunnah of fajr have to be prayed even during travel. Also that if you wake up late and only 10 minutes left for sunrise then first you pray 2 rikkat fardh then wait for sunrise and then pray the sunnah

This is not mandatory. They are nafl prayer. But the holy prophet loved to say them particularly. The Fard prayer is mandatory. If you face short of time you must say the fard prayer only then.
