    I know you should not reveal your sins or other people’s sins if they are hidden but I am a bit confused in this regard won’t this principle make stuff like reporting news sinful since in the news you often hear about what wrong or sinful acts other people have done, doesn’t that count as revealing those people’s sins?

    As far as individual private citizens are concerned, news about them should not be about their hidden sins, rather they should be on other their crimes, whether hidden or open. Investigating an individual’s hidden sins is not allowed in Islam.

    However, if the person is a public figure i.e. a politician or a religious scholar, then even their personal life is subject to scrutiny and above mentioned restrictions do not apply in their case.
